As I’m working on finding the lost writer within me, I’ve been finding myself listening more deeply to lyrics while driving. Musical poetry can grab my soul. It can pull me in and bring tears to my eyes. It can make me dial up the sound so that I can’t hear myself singing along.
Lyrics without music are a kind of poetry of their own as well.

Those that already know me well, know that I am a significant fan of Melissa Etheridge. I have seen her numerous times in concert and enjoy the breadth and depth of her recordings.
This song from 2007 came up in my playlist this morning. It’s one of many that I love that was never released as a single. It might be 12 years old, but the words seem even more relevant to what is happening right now in our country then when the album “Awakening” was first published.
It resonated with my mood on so many levels.
I hope it inspires you as much as it does me.
